Newsletter

Since 1977 the Slovak Studies Association has published an annual (and sometimes bi-annual) newsletter to connect and inform its members. The most recent newsletter is available here:
Slovak Studies Association Newsletter, Volume 31, No. 1, Fall.

Things to Come:
The future of the newsletter is this website, which can do a better, quicker and cheaper job of informing members (and others) about Slovakia-related scholarship. We will continue to produce a newsletter, though its content will consist of items compiled from the website. If time and resources permit, we also hope to make past newsletters available in electronic form, turning the list below into an active and usable archive.
UPDATE: We now have an online archive for nearly all newsletters from the first 17 years of the organization's existence and its most recent 5 years as well

Newsletter Publication History and Schedule
Before the appearance of the association’s website, the Slovak Studies Newsletter was the main way for members to communicate with one another. We maintain here a list of newsletters with links to those (currently few) that are available in electronic form. Publication of the Slovak Studies Association Newsletter began in 1977, the year the Slovak Studies Association was founded. Roman numerals were used to indicate volume numbers 1-4, and the current Arabic numeral notation began with Volume 5 in 1981. Volumes 2-14 appeared on an calendar-year schedule, i.e., issue No. 1 was printed early in the year and issue No. 2 late in that same year. Beginning with Volume 15 (1991), the newsletter was published on an irregular schedule, gradually falling into an academic-year pattern, i.e., issue No. 1 appearing in the fall/winter of one year and issue No. 2 appearing the following spring/summer. With volume 24 (2001), the newsletter returned to its original calendar-year schedule. Issue No. 1 (Spring-Summer) now appears in May/June, and issue No. 2 (Fall-Winter) appears in November/December of the same year. The following is a listing of the entire publication run of the Slovak Studies Association Newsletter.

Many thanks to M. Mark Stolarik and Sheré Hartsfield-Davis for doing the heavy lifting here. Posting these newsletters would not have been possible without their work.
